The State Data Centers, including Rhode Island's, were created in 1978 by the U.S. Census Bureau. The State Center is the official source for demographic, economic and social statistics produced by the Bureau. These data are disseminated to state agencies and local governments at no charge, or on a cost recovery basis as appropriate.
The Core Committee is also available to assist the Lead Agency with administrative functions to ensure effective operation of the State Data Center program. Specific details of the Core Committee's responsibilities are identified in the program's work plan approved by the U.S. Census Bureau's Customer Liaison's Office.
There are 27 affiliated state, public and university libraries.
