The U.S. Census Bureau has redefined a number of census tract boundaries throughout Rhode Island. Changes may have been requested by the community or necessitated by federal law governing population and housing thresholds. These adjustments represent changes made to 1990 census tracts in the creation of 2000 census tracts.

Westerly C.T. 509 has been divided along Rte. 1 from Watch Hill Road east to Dunn’s Corner, north to Westerly-Bradford Road, west to Mcgowan Brook to Town line to create C.t. 509.01 and C.T. 509.02
